Having Trouble Believing?

“Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one! You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your strength. “And these words which I command you today shall be in your heart. You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, when you walk by the way, when you lie down, and when you rise up…” (Deuteronomy 6:4-7)

Do you find yourself having trouble believing that God will  help you in your situation? Maybe you have a financial problem. Maybe you have health issues. Maybe you feel God can’t help you with your need. Do you feel that you want be godly, but don’t have the power?  Yet, you do believe in Jesus. There may be an answer to all of this that you and many other Christians have not thought of.

Compare the Scripture above with what has been happening in America for several generations. In the early 1960’s the Supreme Court took prayer and the Bible out of the public schools. What took place after that? Secular Humanism, which says that if anything is real, it can be seen, felt or heard. You might have to look through a microscope or with an MRI, but it was still tangible.

Some time later, the courts took the Ten Commandments out of the schools stating “that if the posted copies of the Ten Commandments are to  have any effect at all, it will be to induce school children to read, meditate upon, perhaps venerate and obey the commandments [which is] not permissible to state objective(s)…” The result has been what the Apostle Paul predicted when he wrote his second letter to Timothy. “But know this, that in the last days perilous times will come: for men will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, unloving, unforgiving, slanderers, without self-control, brutal, despisers of good, traitors, headstrong, haughty, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God…”Any open-minded person looking around can observe that this is all happening today.

Now the Apostle Paul also wrote to the Romans in Romans 12:2, “And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.” Clearly, Paul intended that we can do this. In fact, the Deuteronomy verse quoted above actually tells us how to do it and how to pass it on to our children. Let us take a closer look at these commands so we can see how to renew our minds and pass this on to our children.

I want to start by addressing the issue of the natural vs. the supernatural, because this is pivotal in our believe in God’s ability to do anything at any time and anywhere.

Everyone has thoughts and ideas. However, science cannot see them. They are no part of the natural realm. Everyone feels emotions, yet these are not part of the natural realm. Most people have love towards family members and spouses. However, while the effects of love can be seen by their actions, love cannot be detected by science. It is not material in nature.

Romans 1:20 states, “For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature—have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that people are without excuse.” We can clearly see the ability God created in man to think, create from ideas and love others. We can also see His incredible creation in the universe with an expanse that we cannot comprehend. So, What is the problem with believing? We will explain this in the next posting. In the mean time, read Genesis chapers 1 through 11.
