Trust In The Lord

Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight. (Proverbs 3:5-6)

We just had an experience that reminded us to trust in the Lord at all times. After a really tough month at work with a lot of problems coupled with a lot of overtime, I had become exhausted and discouraged. I kept praying and asking God for help.

One day while driving to work, I heard a preacher on the radio talking about faith in God. He said that it is a firm belief that develops hope in God. However, it is not the hope that wishes that something will happen. It is the kind of hope that one can anchor his soul on.  In other words it is solid.

A couple of days later, God allowed something to happen that brought it home to me. We received a call from one of our daughters telling us that her teenage son was missing. They could not find him and they were worried. My wife told her that we would pray for them. When I heard this, I was just strengthened to pray with faith. So we prayed that our grandson would be found unharmed by anyone or anything.

About two hours later, out daughter called again. She was excited and happy. They had found her son. He fell asleep while riding the bus home and the driver dripped him off at the end of the line, about 10 miles from where he was supposed to get off. Instead of calling his parents, he decided to walk home. He ended up walking all the way through the worst part of town totally unharmed! He was found about two miles from home. God had answered our prayers!

I was strongly reminded to persevere in looking to Jesus for strength while trusting that God always keeps His promises. That is why we are told to trust the Lord with all our hearts and not to lean on our own understanding. It was clear that we did not understand where our grandson was, but God knew and was unhindered in His ability to help us. You can be sure that there was a lot of praise and thanksgiving going up to Him after these events.

We all go through times like this. We just have to remind ourselves to keep our eyes focused on Him, because Jesus made the way for us. He opened up that communication for us. For that reason, Scripture tells us that we can approach the throne of grace with boldness in our time of need. We just need to walk in our trust of Jesus constantly.

Hebrews 4:15-16: For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are–yet was without sin. Let us then approach the throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.
