Magi’s Lead

Matthew 2:1-2

Now after Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea in the days of Herod the king, magi from the east arrived in Jerusalem, saying, ‘Where is He who has been born King of the Jews? For we saw His star in the east and have come to worship Him.’

The magi were scribes who studied holy texts left in Persia by the exiled Jews and recognized the signs in the heavens proclaiming the birth of The King (Numbers 24:17). They were seeking the one spoken of prophetically in the Old Testament who would bring life and salvation to the world, the Messiah.  Jesus fulfilled every scripture that was spoken of Him.  There were over 300 of them.  Mathematically incalculable are the odds of anyone doing this. George Heron, a French mathematician, calculated that the odds of one man fulfilling only 40 of those prophecies are 1 in 10 to the power of 157. That is a 1 followed by 157 zeros. Compare it to this; your odds on winning the state lottery are 14 followed by 6 zeros.  He is an amazing individual that they sought.

The Magi  traveled over 1000 miles to see the new born King who would redeem us from our sins. The One who is from eternity past and will live forever more (Isaiah 43:3; 13; Micah 5:2).  They brought Him valuable gifts of gold, frankincense and myrrh.  Prophesied was the One who would bring sight to the blind (Luke 4:18), bind the brokenhearted (Psalm 147:3), heal our sicknesses and redeem the sinner from eternal death and restore relationship with God (II Corinthians 5:18).  He has come to bring the favor of the Lord to those who would come to Him (Psalm 84:11; Isaiah 61:1-2).

We need to follow the Magi’s lead and seek after our God, bringing Him the most precious gift that we can give to Him, our very lives.  He is worthy of all our worship.  In Jeremiah 29:13 the Lord says unto us ‘You will seek Me and find Me when you search for Me with all your heart.’  The magi sought Jesus and found Him, indeed God led them there.  Today we can find the Healer of our souls as well when we sincerely seek Him and His will.  As He fulfilled all that was spoken of Himself, so He will He fulfill that which was spoken of those who trust in His ways.  He will lead you to the abundant life! (Psalm 23:1-2)
