Only The Redeemed

According to the Lord’s own word, we tell you that we who are still alive, who are left till the coming of the Lord, will certainly not precede those who have fallen asleep. For the Lord himself will come down from heaven, with a loud command, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet call of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first. After that, we who are still alive and are left will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And so we will be with the Lord forever. Therefore encourage each other with these words. (1 Thessalonians 4:15-17)

As we enter 2018, we enter a world that has change dramatically in the last 20 years. We see lawlessness and terrorism on the rise as we feel less safe than at any time in our history since 1776. We are experiencing a falling away in the church and deceptions abounding both in an outside of the church. However, we can take courage and be encouraged at the same time.

While there have been more Christians persecuted than at any time in history, there have been more people come to Jesus than at any time in history.  The largest national Christian church in the world is the church in China. The nation of Israel has fulfilled the prophesies concerning its reestablishment in the last days, even to the point of American followed by several other nations acknowledging Jerusalem as its capital. The reports of Muslims placing faith in Jesus through miraculous visions and audible voices attributed to Jesus have almost become common place.

So, why is this all happening? I believe, as the scripture quoted above states, that we are getting close to the time when Jesus will return for his believers. Paul tells us to be encouraged by this truth. And so we must.

I ran across a song that used to be popular in the 80’s that reminds us of this encouragement. I will reprint the words below. The song’s title matches the title of this posting.

As I look around me/at these days we’re living in/

I question/ how much longer will it be/ till the Father/

reaches over/ to touch His Son upon the shoulder/ and

says, “Jesus, bring our family home to me.”

And only the redeemed/ shall hear His voice on that day/

as He comes on clouds of glory/ to catch His bride away./

The graves will then burst open/ and the dead in Christ

will rise./ We which are alive in Jesus/ will be changed

in a twinkling of an eye.

Up to now/ we’ve been looking/ through the glass so dark

and dim/ and only a few mysteries/ have we known./ But

I sense now/ in my spirit/ His returning is upon us./

With a shout/ and God’s trumpet/ we’ll soon be gone.

Be encouraged. Things in the world look bad, but things in God’s spiritual realm are getting better all the time. Maranatha – Come, Lord Jesus!
